The “Ti” Discussion Group (Ti wo Kataru Kai)

Commemorative Photo Taken at the 20th Anniversary of the Creation of the "Ti Discussion Group"

This may be new to some karateka, but there is a group of senior Karatedo instructors on Okinawa that have a study  and exchange group called “The Ti Discussion Group” (Ti wo Kataru Kai – 手を語る会). The group includes: Shinjo Kiyohide (Uechi ryu), Kinjo Masakazu (Ryukyu Kobudo), Tsuha Kiyoshi (Shorin ryu), Uema Yasuhiro (Shorin ryu) and many others. On March 29, 2009 a demonstration was held at the Okinawa National Theatre to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the creation of this group. Below you can find a few demonstration highlights.

I love this kind of demonstration in Okinawa, no fancy music or theatrics….just an honest display of what people do.

    Thanks for posting it Mario.

I was there, but I forgot my camera! I was soooo pissed!

Anyway, they pronounced it “te wo kataru kai”, not “ti” if I am not entirely mistaken.

    Great stuff!

Thanks Jesse “Te” is right but I’ll stick to “Ti” as that’s how Kinjo Masakazu sensei pronounced it when we discussed the group last year.

Thanks, this is always a lesson in kata I appreciate most. Some of my Okinawa video’s are like this and it seems so refreshing.
